Decorative vanity door and drawer hardware goes a long way towards getting a customized look and feel in your bathroom when remodeling. Finding the right knobs, pulls and hinges for you bathroom storage units can not only help to define your washrooms decorative style, it can also add a personal charm and zest to an otherwise lacklustre door or drawer.

When designing a bath, a mix of open and closed storage space in your bathroom provides a variety of options that makes your bathroom seem less closed in. From recessed storage space to stacked cabinet storage towers with closed drawers or open shelves or even some pantry pullouts the units should be easily accessible and be unproblematic to open and close. You can use a simple hole or flush knobs made for sliding doors and flush pulls that can be mounted in mortises to easily access your storage contents.

It is simply amazing the endless amounts of knobs and pulls that are available at your local home improvement store and it would be a rare occasion indeed if you could not find something to outfit the required style of your bathroom storage units. There are also many different ways of attaching the hardware to the units, as many bolt through the door or drawer while others simply screw on. Just make sure the bolts or screws are of the proper length or else your handles will be too loose to function properly or may even fall off. The easiest hinge to install by far is the cup hinge.

European cup hinges are the most popular hinges for frameless bathroom cabinet units. These are hidden behind the door and are adjustable and actually allow a door to be opened completely instead of restricting the motion to a ninety degree angle. There are even clip on versions which allow you to lift off the door without the use of a screwdriver.

Small butt hinges are customary for standard face-frame cabinets and other period style units. Some other options for standard doors are pin hinges, offset hinges and concealed hinges.

Standard cabinet sliding doors can run along wood, vinyl or metal tracks. Some specialty doors can run along overhead sliding tracks or runners. Piano hinges are used for drop down drawers or if you prefer you can also use butterfly hinges or retractable (sometimes called flipper hinges) which gives you the option to fold your drawers back completely so that it is out of the way. To keep your bathroom cabinets closed, catches and latches can be used. Magnetic catches are a good choice because they don’t depend on your poor alignment of the cabinet doors and are durable and lasting. You can even install locks if security is an issue or if you want to keep small children out of the cupboards. And just as an after thought, it’s always a good idea to keep the key accessible in case of an emergency.
