Upgrading Storage and Furniture Cabinet Hardware Accessories in Your Bathroom
19
The trend towards luxurious bathroom enclaves has created a vibrant thriving marketplace for bathroom hardware accessories such as cabinet knobs, handles, hinges, pulls, cleats and drawer slides. This development has produced dramatic changes in our bathroom storage furnishings and the way we dress up an otherwise ordinary set of built in furniture, shelf units, wall units and vanity cabinets in our bathrooms. By selecting a style that best matches the theme of our plumbing fixtures, we can maintain an enduring continuity of design elements throughout our bathroom bringing it all aesthetically together. Outdated standard storage pieces are being replaced by high quality components designed to resemble custom furnishings and in some cases actual furniture has made its way into our bathroom sanctuaries, ranging from makeup tables to armoires. And yet while these masterpieces of modern furniture are encased in elegant exteriors, there is still an underlying emphasis on practicality of storage, convenience and ease of use.
Cabinet knobs are best for smaller cabinets or if you want to create a more restrained look to your bathroom cabinets. With an almost infinite availability of styles, you can match virtually any bath design you want. The assortment of manufactured and natural materials choices range from glass, metals, wood, marble and granite, even giving you the opportunity to match your stone countertops or tiled walls or even your bathroom floor with your cabinet hardware.
Cabinet handles, or cabinet pulls as they are sometimes called, are more appropriately used for larger cabinets with larger door areas. Mainly because they will not get lost in the larger area of your cabinet face and at the same time will help augment the attractiveness of your under-counter cabinets.
Sometimes when buying new cabinets, the hinges are often overlooked by some home owners when remodelling their bathrooms but believe it or not these simple hinges can help to produce cohesion in the overall feel of your cabinet design. Hinge styles are available in two universal classifications, concealed and exposed to match almost any cabinet plan. Just by selecting a style and finish that best matches the fashion of your cabinet knobs or pulls on your bathroom cabinet doors, you can compliment the rest of your bathroom hardware’s appearance. If on the other hand you do not wish to see your cabinet hinges, then European hinges would work best with your intentions.
Most bathrooms have drawers for storage of small accessory or appliance items. To open and close the drawers you need drawer slides. Ball bearing drawer slides are best for heavier drawers, making them glide open and shut with ease. If you have any questions, visit your local hardware store, as these drawer slides come in many extensions and load ratings. Your local home improvement store will also be able to tell you if you need a self-closing and non self-closing model. Non bearing hinges are idyllic for smaller and light weight drawers but unfortunately are not as smooth operating as their ball bearing slide counterpart, yet their performance is adequate for normal use unless you store extremely heavy objects in your drawers.
It should go without saying that new cabinet hardware can give your bathroom a dramatically appealing facelift. It should also be noted here that when replacing your cabinet hardware and the holes don’t match, you can purchase fix-it-plates that will cover up the old holes and allow you to drill new holes in their place, leaving you no excuse to replace your outdated cabinet hardware in your bathroom.
