In Part 1 and Part 2 of Bathroom Stylistic Trends we looked at “minimalist” bathroom design and “period” bathroom design respectably. In Part 3 we talked about contemporary bathroom design and now in Part 4 we jump into “modern” bathroom stylistic trends. Now there has been some debate as to whether modern bathroom design is any different from contemporary bathroom design. While there are many similarities, successful modern bathroom design makes creative use of the available space and combines the various elements into an integrated and distinctive modern design style. Modern bathroom design is more concerned about the current trends that are occurring in the bathroom design industry at the present time, it does not look into the future of bathroom design but is only concerned with the “here and now” trending mainstream. This unfortunately sometimes could equate to now and again short lived trends. Some modern bathroom stylistic bathroom trends are: spa trends, green trends as well as utilitarian and simplistic geometric trending in bathroom design.

The home bathroom spa has almost become synonymous with modern bathroom design as home owners are more stressed than ever and are trying to create a home sanctuary to get away from the wiles of everyday life. Spa baths are characterized by neutral colored, calm peaceful spaces where one can relax in a freestanding tub along with the amenities of modern conveniences such as heated towels and floors surrounded by aromatherapy, sound therapy, chromatherapy, fluffy white towels and jars filled with visual eye candy, bath soaps, salts and essential oils.

Simplistic utilitarian trending has stripped down the bathroom to a few moving parts. The modern aesthetic is clean lines; there is a lack of clutter and unnecessary ornamentation in fixtures and decor. Only the essentials needed to use the bathroom are placed in plain view, everything else is placed neatly away in a clean stylized storage system. There is a sense of richness that is created through the use of modern luxurious materials, such as marble and granite. Unity is achieved through the application of surfaces and simple geometric fixture shapes and patterns that offer a toned down elegant design appearance. Remember that “modern” does not have to be boring, strong lines and deep simplistic colors, goes a long way to defining quality and refinement when remodeling your bathroom.
