Bathroom Bathtub Trends A New Wrinkle To An Old Horse Trough Bath
29
While the concept of bath trending is something new, bathtubs themselves have been around for thousands of years. The new bathtub manufacturing trends in size, style, materials and accessories may have changed but the functionality of the bath remains the same, that being, to cleanse your body in an airtight container which you can put clean water in and let soiled bath water out. With so many bath trending choices before us, when looking for a new bathtub, the first thing you must consider is your bathrooms floor space and layout and then what innovative new style of bathtub will fit in with the rest of your bathrooms undercurrent décor choices. Of course, who will be using the tub will dictate the size and progressive role your tub plays in your families daily routine. And let us not forget about practicality, is it really feasible to have a sunken tub on the second floor of your home above your living room or can your floor actually support the weight of a large cast iron tub for two filled with water while you and your spouse frolic in your new novelty bath.
Its kind of funny how true the saying, “what’s old is new again” actually is, as the trends in bath tub design have progressed from free standing, to built-in to alcove to free standing becoming fashionable once again. Some of the popular current styles of bathtubs in vogue include sunken, built-in and free standing fashionable tubs. And then there are many chic variations of each like claw foot vs pedestal free standing tubs and whirlpools vs air-jet bathtubs. There is also the emergence of alcoves vs already built-in traditional tubs? And lest we forget, the advent of the latest furor in tub accessories and technology, from chromatherapy, to sound therapy to full blown booming multimedia systems integrated into your bathtubs infrastructure.
While it’s true that bathtub trends seem to have come full circle, the new bathtub versions list of materials is much more complex and extensive than their predecessors, ranging from steel, porcelain, cast iron, glass, precious metals and even stone. It would be interesting to see how grandpa would react when he stepped into his claw foot tub and the air jets and colored lights turned on and music started playing all around him. This ain’t your grandpa’s tub! While one of the new trend swings is retro in tubs, today’s consumers are wanting the old fashioned traditional look but with all the bells and whistles of modern technology. Whether it is claw-foot, pedestal or soaking tub, the refined elegance of modern tubs far outstretches the utilitarian staunchness of the horse troughs that we one bathed in.
