Bathroom Trends News – Wooden Sinks in Your Bathroom! Is This a Sink or Swim Situation?

One of the hottest new trends in the bathroom these days are wooden sinks. Contrary to what most people may think, wood lavatory sinks are durable and can withstand the rigors of daily use while maintaining the richness of the material. If you are into creating green spaces and are looking for something rustic and natural then natural wood washbasins are for you! Today’s wooden sinks have a tough, easy-to-clean finish that requires virtually no maintenance which is equally suited for a quick washing up or a more elaborate grooming practice.

These exquisite hand crafted lavatory vessel sinks are primarily made from solid Teak wood but can be made from various other woods such as a combination of Oak and Birch as long as the wood is treated with an eco friendly water resistant finish. Teak wood is extremely resilient and due to the nature of the timber and finish used, it will never leak. Unknown to most people, Teak has natural waterproofing properties and was used for hundreds of years on sea fairing vessels for this very reason. The other reason to use teak in your bathroom is that it also has natural antiseptic properties, which is an additional benefit when used to make baths and sinks.

Due to the properties of the wooden sink, there are a few guidelines you should adhere to when using a Teak sink in your bathroom. Number one: avoid leaving water in the sink for long periods of time such as overnight; it’s also a good idea to wipe up any spills as quickly as possible. A soap dish or a soap dispenser is recommended. Do not let moist soap bars sit directly on the sinks finish and try to wipe up any excess soap because you don’t want the chemicals in the soap to discolor the finish. When cleaning use standard non-abrasive bathroom cleaners if at all possible. Instead, clean using a soft sponge with warm water or water with a mild soap. Another solution would be to mix about three ounces of white vinegar or a mild cleaner intended for cleaning finished wood floors with a gallon of water and put into spray bottles for daily spot cleaning. Just remember not to use ammonia-based cleaning products because they will soften the oil finish if used over an extended period of time.

Wood sinks can be carved from a solid piece of lumber or they can be put together from dozens of pieces individually crafted. These pieces in turn are hand turned and hand finished with a special formula of oil and resin to give them a protective coating that will not crack, chip or peel. When all is said and done, each wooden sink is an incredible unique work of art that nobody else will ever own but you. Natural wood sinks not only create charm and beauty in your bathroom, they also add a rustic and natural feel to your bathroom décor. And with the advent of modern polyurethane lacquers and teak oil combinations, we now have a tough, easy-to-clean product that will stand the ravages of time and make it a breeze to keep your sink looking great. There is no reason for you not to go green in your bathroom with your new one of a kind natural wood sink.
