Out of the three Christmas themes for your bathroom (traditional, contemporary and modern) the modern theme is the most expressive. With a smorgasbord of avenues to choose from for a modern bathroom theme, it is important to remember that the color and design subject matter needs to be relatively consistent in order to get the feeling you are trying to create, you don’t want to overload the viewer’s senses with too many contradictory images and too much color unless or course that is your intention because this is the season to give. Use prints sparingly and if your bathroom looks too busy use solid colors to hold the theme together.

These are some of the images that come to mind when thinking of a modern bathroom Christmas theme: jingle bells, Santa Claus and his elves, Miss Claus, Santa’s sleigh, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snow Man, Jack Frost, The Ginger Bread Man, ginger bread houses, candy canes, The Nut Cracker, and The Little Drummer Boy. Festive candles in the shape of Santa or Frosty the Snowman. The Grinch, lots of presents, fruitcake, shiny Christmas ornaments, fake snow on the window sills, toy trains racing around the Christmas tree, 3-D snow flakes, ceramic Christmas villages and houses in winter scenes, figurine in a round see thru dome that mimics snowing when you shake it, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Scrooge, reindeer, Santa’s workshop, letters to Santa, green and red plaid table cloths.

Other images to include: chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, mittens and sleigh rides. Winter scenes painted on windows, Cadbury chocolates and brightly decorated Christmas trees, cozy red and green Christmas sweaters, big red bows with bells on the bathroom door and sugar plums in jars, green and red colors, bright joyous colors, sparkling Christmas mini lights and the smell of cinnamon and apple pie. Don’t forget Christmas music like “Dashing through the snow…” Use these images as a starting point for inspiration for your next modern bathroom Christmas theme. Keep it fun, keep it sweet, and keep it a joy to your senses and you will enjoy a magical Christmas in your bathroom this holiday season.

Pick a theme like Santa’s work shop and stick to it. In this theme you can have stockings on the bathroom walls; you can even add a fake 2-D fire place. Put a large door sized plastic picture of the jolly old man on the bathroom door or gift wrap your door to make it look like a giant present with a bow.

Buy a Santa Claus toilet set where the tank, seat cover and floor mat all combine to create a Santa Claus. Candy canes around the mirror, a miniature artificial Christmas tree surrounded by a toy train on the toilet bowl or vanity, Rudolph red nose shaped soaps, or Christmas themed soap dish or soap pumps, red and green jellybeans or other brightly colored Christmas candy in a jar. Hang white towels with little red and green mistletoe designs or solid Red with Green towel sets side by side. Solid red or green bath mats outside or in your tub. Place miniature wood or the old (weathered looking) painted metallic children’s toys on the shelves and window sills, maybe even a miniature Santa’s sleigh to round off the display.

With a letter to Santa in mind, get toilet paper with writing or Christmas greetings on it. Why not change the tooth brushes to reflect the red, green and white festive colors. Put up Santa Claus shower curtains or window curtains or a simple picture of Santa or Rudolph could create a festive feel. If you have a pedestal sink, wrap tinsel or pine tree garnishes all around the base up to the sink and place empty boxes wrapped in Christmas paper, dressed up as small presents with bows. Set brightly colored twinkling Christmas lights around the bathroom windows, doors, or mirror. Keep these lights away from water; remember water and electricity don’t mix.

Brightly colored ornaments can also be hung from the mirror. Christmas figurines can be displayed on the window sill, vanity, toilet tank or a specially made display shelf just for that purpose. Set up an offering of cookies and milk on the vanity or the window sill. Why not create a gingerbread house to put in the bathroom, just remember to turn on the fan after each shower so that mold does not grow on your display. Or how about a red and green pillar candles arranged in pine garland around their base of brass or gold candle holders. Keep a copy of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens for reading in the bathroom.

Like Santa’s list, the roll could go on and on. Bring the Christmas spirit into your bathroom and make your bathroom a place to remember this year. Hopefully this “hodge podge” of thoughts and inspirations will give you the perfect idea as to how you should decorate your bathroom for the Christmas season. And don’t forget to take the kids to see Santa at the mall. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
