Most Embarrassing Moments in The Bathroom or To Plunge Your Toilet or Not to Plunge, That is The Question!

Hey ya’ll I have had my fair share of embarrassing moments from when I was a child to a full grown adult. Thankfully like most embarrassing moments over time the anxiety disappears and it becomes something funny to talk about. For instance, one time I was over at my boyfriend’s house and I had to use the bathroom, like any other time I unloaded my bladder, flushed the toilet and carried on to wash my hands. As I went to leave I heard an odd sound, I turned around to realize that the toilet was flooding at an alarming rate. In panic mode I grabbed the plunger and started pumping away. By that time my boyfriend was running up the stairs telling me not to use that toilet… typical guy… he totally forgot to mention that the toilet was out of whack and needed repair. In the end we both ended up having to clean up pee water off the bathroom floor… isn’t that a fun substitute instead of a relaxing “stay at home” movie night.

So people please for your friends, family or loved ones sake inform others when your toilet needs fixing. Since I want others to have the vital information needed to handle this bathroom emergency here are some quick fix tips if you do happen to come upon the same situation. With a toilet that’s completely clogged the water will fill to the brim of the bowl and maybe even overflow, the best thing to do is to wait 10 minutes or so, so that the water level decreases then go at it vigorously with your plunger. Get lots of towels to sop up the mess and keep water damage to a minimum. One thing to remember is to keep enough water in the bowl to cover the plunger as this helps to create pressure when you push down on the plunger and keeps it in place. Once you force out the air, plunge vigorously in and out, maintaining the seal without lifting out the plunger. Alternate between fast and slow and powerful strokes, about 20 or so; this should loosen whatever is clogging up the toilet. Now, that should work most of the time but if that fails remove the tank lid and lift the flapper valve partially and let about two cups of water into the bowl making the water decrease and repeat the process as many times as needed.

If it’s a bad clog you may need to go to your local hardware store to get a drain snake which is an inexpensive long wire coil with a corkscrew-like tip that you end up feeding into your pipes until it encounters and breaks up the clog. Hopefully that works or you may have to pull up the toilet, I’m guessing if you don’t know much about plumbing the drain snake is as far as your handyman or handywoman self is going to be able to go. Hiring a plumber is expensive but if you do your homework and get background checks it will be worth your money having a professional do the job.
